Importance of John Deere Combine Settings

Harvesting is a vital step in a farmer’s effort to have a good result to his farming operations. In the past, it was a cumbersome process. However, in modern times, technology and mechanization have come to the aid of farmers. Harvester combines help farmers to use harvesters for different crops conveniently. The right kind of John Deere Combine settings would make the whole operation much more efficient and profitable.

• Harvesting is always a challenge for farmers. The process is complicated not only by the different crops involved but also the state of each crop. For example, harvesting high-moisture corn creates its own special problems as compared to harvesting dry corn. This calls for adjustments and configuration changes in the John Deere Combine settings. If not, there will loss of grains.

• Starting right at the front of the combine, the farmer has to work through different parts of the combine to make fine adjustments in the settings. The series of adjustments must begin at the header by making sure that the header is feeding in the crop in an even manner and in the right direction. Often, 80% of harvest loss occurs at the header. Later, comes the adjustments of the concave and sieve. The feeder chain clearance above the floor must be adjusted for the kind of crop being harvested.

• The drum position has to be upright and the conveyor speed relatively slower. There are usually 15 threshing elements present in the standard configuration when wet corn is harvested. During the process, if any grain damage is noticed, it may be necessary to change the elements of row one and two into smoother ones. The relative link of the concave and the rotor must also be considered. The concave type to be used for better performance is the round bar type, when wet corn is involved.

In general, it is a good idea to have the initial John Deere Combine settings for the concave clearance to match the diameter of the cob. If the concave clearance is too wide or closed too tight, cracks and broken grains may increase. The users must ensure that Rotor is set at as slow a speed as feasible and the concave should be set as open as possible to reduce the grain losses.

A very important tip to remember at all times is that while making the settings, we should take up only one adjustment at a time.

The John Deere Combine settings when done properly, ensures excellent productivity and output. The loss if any is minimal and within acceptable levels. The grain quality will also be is quite good. That’s a well deserved reward for the industrious and devoted farmers.
